Hawkins Signs Five-Year Deal With Broncos

Sunday, June 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - Western Michigan men's head basketball coach Steve Hawkins signed a five-year contract on Saturday that will keep him with the program until the 2012-13 season.

The deal guarantees Hawkins $246,000 a year in addition to numerous incentives for academic and on-court achievements.

"I'm elated with the confidence president (John) Dunn and (athletic director) Kathy Beauregard have shown in me with this new contract," Hawkins said. "While I am proud of our past successes, I am excited about the future and the opportunity to continue to build and improve upon those successes."

In his five seasons as coach, Hawkins has led the Broncos to four 20-win seasons, including a 20-12 mark highlighted by the Mid-American Conference West Division title a season ago.
