Sunday, March 9, 2008
Richmond, VA -- (Sports Network) - Laimis Kisielius scored a game-high 23 points, including a game-winning layup with three seconds remaining in regulation to give the fifth-seeded William & Mary Tribe a surprising, 56-54 victory over the top-seeded VCU Rams in semifinal action in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament at the Richmond Coliseum. Danny Sumner added 19 points and seven rebounds for William & Mary (17-15), which has won all three of its tournament contests with last second shots. Eric Maynor led the way for VCU (24-7) with 16 points and six assists, while Jamal Shuler chipped in 13 points in the losing effort. The Rams limited William & Mary to a mere 39.1 percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half and went into the break with a 28-22 advantage. The Tribe stormed back in the second stanza, shooting 46.4 percent from the field. However, despite the team's strong effort, William & Mary still needed the heroics of Kisielius in the final seconds to collect the thrilling two- point win. With the victory the Tribe will now face the third-seeded George Mason Patriots on Monday night for the title and the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
