NCAA Game Summary - Illinois-Chicago At Wisconsin-Milwaukee

POSTED: 12:21 am EST March 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - Scott VanderMeer posted a game-high 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Illinois-Chicago Flames to a 63-55 victory over the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers in a Horizon League tilt at U.S. Cellular Arena.

Karl White, Jr. added 14 points off the bench in the win for UIC (16-14, 9-9 HL), while Josh Mayo chipped in 12.

Jason Averkamp scored 11 points to go with eight rebounds to pace Milwaukee (14-15, 9-9), and Ricky Franklin tallied 10 points in the losing effort.

A cold-shooting first period resulted in a 24-24 stalemate at the break, as the Flames hit just 37.5 percent from the field while holding the Panthers to a 37.0 percent effort.

The Flames held the Panthers to a miserable 25.8 percent shooting performance from the floor during the second stanza and converted 23-of-33 from the charity stripe to take the eight-point victory.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee shot just 7-of-30 from long range in the loss, and UIC earned a 28-12 edge in points from the foul line.
