NCAA Game Summary - Western Michigan At Iowa

Iowa City, IA -- (Sports Network) - Tim Hiller threw for 367 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Western Michigan Broncos to a 28-19 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes in a non-league affair at Kinnick Stadium. Brandon West led the Broncos (4-7) with 116 rushing yards and also grabbed nine passes for 93 yards and one touchdown. Anthony Middleton caught four passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Jake Christensen led the way for Iowa (6-6), throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns. Western Michigan jumped out to an early lead over Iowa, thanks to a 32-yard touchdown pass from Hiller to West. Unfortunately the extra point was no good, leaving the score at 6-0 in favor of WMU. The Broncos recovered a fumble on the ensuing kick off and used the turnover to add to their lead, as the Broncos went up 9-0 with a 30-yard field goal by Mike Jones. A 23-yard field goal by Jones as time expired in the first quarter pushed WMU lead to 12-0. The Broncos continued to pile on the points, as Hiller hit Middleton with a 35-yard touchdown pass midway through the second stanza. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, the Hawkeyes finally got on the scoreboard when Christensen hit Trey Stross with an 11-yard touchdown pass. Iowa was unable to connect on the extra point, leaving the score at 19-6 in favor of WMU. The Hawkeyes continued to chip away at WMU's lead, as Christensen connected with Tom Busch on a three-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter. On the very next drive for the Broncos, Hiller hit Middleton with a seven-yard touchdown pass. WMU was unable to connect on a two-point conversion, leaving the score at 25-13. Iowa continued to stick around, as Christensen threw his third TD of the contest, finding Brandon Myers with a three-yard pass. However, the team was unable to connect on another extra point, leaving the score at 25-19. The Broncos added a late 30-yard field goal by Chris Kelly to seal the nine- point win.
