NCAA Game Summary - Notre Dame At Stanford

Stanford, CA -- (Sports Network) - Robert Hughes rushed for 136 yards and one touchdown as he led the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a 21-14 victory over the Stanford Cardinal in a non-league matchup at Stanford Stadium. Jimmy Clausen threw for 196 yards in the win for Notre Dame (3-9), and also scored a touchdown with his legs. The Cardinal (3-8) were led by Anthony Kimble, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Late in the first quarter the Irish took a 7-0 when Clausen plunged into the end zone on a two-yard run. On the next drive for Stanford the Cardinal evened the score at seven apiece when Kimble crossed the goal line on a one-yard run. An 11-yard touchdown run by Kimble late in the second stanza gave Stanford a 14-7 edge. In the final seconds of the first half Travis Thomas scored on a one-yard run, tying the score at 14-14. After a scoreless third quarter Hughes scampered into the end zone on a six- yard run midway through the fourth frame, giving the Irish a seven-point lead. The Fighting Irish overcame four turnovers and five sacks en route to their second consecutive victory.
