NCAA Game Summary - UL-Lafayette At North Texas

(Sports Network) - Quarterback Mic Desormeaux completed 14-of-20 pass attempts for 217 yards and three scores, and he also rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown to lead the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns to a 59-30 win over the North Texas Mean Green in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at Fouts Field.

Tyrell Fenroy shared the spotlight for the Cajuns. Fenroy, a four-year starter at tailback, carried the ball 18 times for 92 yards and a touchdown on his way to becoming ULL's all-time leading rusher.

Not to be outdone by his teammates, wide receiver Jason Chery also turned in a huge performance, hauling in three passes for 123 yards and three scores, while carrying the ball three times for 85 yards and a touchdown. Chery also returned a kickoff 97 yards for a score.

North Texas was led by signal caller Giovanni Vizzi who completed 29-of-44 pass attempts for 361 yards and two scores. Casey Fitzgerald was Vizzi's top target, as he made 14 catches for 231 yards and a score. Cam Montgomery led the ground attack for the Mean Green, carrying the ball 20 times for 116 yards and a score.

The Mean Green opened the scoring early in the first quarter when Jeremy Knott drilled a 46-yard field goal.

UL-Lafayette responded less than a minute later, as Chery raced 81 yards for his first score of the day to give his team a 7-3 advantage.

North Texas answered right back when Vizza found Roderick Johnson from 12- yards out to give the Mean Green a 10-7 lead.

Chery responded in the final minute of the first quarter, this time through the air, as Desormeaux delivered a 17-yard touchdown strike to the star performer.

UL-Lafayette was back on the board minutes later when Desormeaux and Chery hooked up again, this time from 49 yards out to take a 21-10 lead.

North Texas responded on its next drive with a 43-yard field goal from Knott.

Less than 30 seconds later, Chery extended the ULL lead to 28-13 with his 97- yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Chery scored his final touchdown of the day late in the second quarter on a 57-yard pass from Desormeaux.

North Texas refused to go away and closed out the first half with a one-yard touchdown run from Montgomery. The score sent the Mean Green into the half trailing 35-20.

The Mean Green opened up the second half with a 43-yard touchdown strike from Vizza to Fitzgerald.

UL-Lafayette stretched its advantage to 38-27 late in the third quarter when Drew Edmiston nailed a 45-yard field goal.

The Ragin' Cajuns continued to roll, scoring on the final play of the third quarter, when Desormeaux scampered 31 yards for a touchdown.

The Mean Green did their best to stay competitive, opening up the fourth quarter with a 24-yard field goal by Knott to make it a 45-30 game.

However, ULL put the game away in the final stanza as Fenroy scored from one- yard out to give his team a 22-point lead.

Matt Dupree put the finishing touches on the victory for UL-Lafayette with a six-yard touchdown run to secure the 59-30 victory.

UL-Lafayette was dominant offensively, averaging 8.7 yards per play while tailing 590 total yards.
