GAME NOTES: The Miami-Ohio RedHawks will try to grab their first league win this Saturday afternoon when they battle the Bowling Green Falcons in a Mid- American Conference tilt at Perry Stadium. The RedHawks have had little success this season, in fact, the team has just one win in six games. Miami-OH is currently in the midst of a three-game losing skid, which includes a tough 17-13 setback to Northern Illinois this past Saturday. Playing away from home has been a struggle for Miami-Ohio since the beginning of the 2006 campaign, as the RedHawks are just 4-13 on the road during that time span. As for the Falcons, they brought their record to 3-3 on the season with a thrilling, 37-33 victory over Akron this past weekend. The Falcons are winless in two games at Perry Stadium this year, but in the previous season BGSU posted a 4-1 ledger on its home field. The RedHawks hold a commanding, 40-19-5 edge over BGSU in the all-time series and that includes a current two-game winning streak.

Offensively the RedHawks have struggled, as the team is currently producing just 16.7 ppg behind a mere 314.5 total ypg. Miami has scored just eight touchdowns, and the ground game has been atrocious as the squad is averaging a pathetic 89.5 ypg. Thomas Merriweather has been the main option in the backfield, as the tailback has rushed for 453 yards and four touchdowns, but is averaging just 3.9 ypc. The passing attack has also been ineffective, as Daniel Raudabaugh has thrown for just 1,189 yards and four TDs against five interceptions. The offensive woes for Miami continued this past weekend, as the team fell to NIU, 17-13. The only touchdown for the RedHawks was a punt return, as the offensive unit finished with just 284 total yards. Merriweather was bottled up in the setback, as the running back totaled just 60 yards on 3.5 ypc. Raudabaugh was also ineffective in the contest, as the signal caller completed just 19-of-35 passes for a mere 149 yards.

On top of the poor performance offensively, the defense for Miami has been just as pathetic, as the team has surrendered 21 touchdowns, while opponents are racking up 330.3 total ypg. The main problem for the RedHawks has been their inability to stop the run, as teams are rumbling for 166.8 ypg. Miami's struggles against the run continued this past weekend as the team allowed the Huskies to rush for 215 yards on 5.8 ypc. The defensive unit was unable to make any big plays, as the RedHawks did not force a turnover, and finished the game with no sacks. Joey Hudson led the way with 10 tackles and forced a fumble in the loss, while Robbie Wilson added nine stops.

The Falcons scored 23 fourth quarter points this past weekend to complete the comeback victory over Akron. The Falcons racked up 419 total yards, including an impressive 175 rushing yards on 6.5 ypc. Anthony Turner paced the team in the win with 126 rushing yards, while quarterback Tyler Sheehan added 29 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Sheehan was even more effective with his arm, as the signal caller threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Corey Partridge grabbed two of those TD passes, and finished the game with seven receptions for 58 yards. Sheehan has been solid throughout the season, as the QB has completed 65.4 percent of his throws for 1,447 yards. In six games Sheehan has thrown nine touchdowns against just four interceptions, and has leaned heavily on Partridge, as the wideout has hauled in 31 receptions for 312 yards and three scores. As for the ground game, Turner has been the main option, as the tailback has rumbled for 238 yards and two TDs, but Chris Bullock has also ran the ball well, racking up 237 yards to go along with two touchdowns.

Fortunately the Falcons were able to overcome a poor showing by the defense, which surrendered 33 points on 367 total yards. BGSU was abused by Akron's ground attack, as the front line was pounded for 206 yards on 4.9 ypc. Stopping the run has been a huge problem for BGSU, as the Falcons are being beat up for 166.3 ypg. Out of the 20 touchdowns surrendered by this defensive unit, 13 have come via the run. Bowling Green has been able to force 11 turnovers on the season, but pressuring the quarterback has been a difficult task, as the team has racked up just nine sacks thus far. Erique Dozier and John Haneline have been the top two defensive players for BGSU, as Dozier has collected 50 tackles, while Haneline has grabbed 49 stops.

The Falcons were able to slip past Akron this past weekend, but the team should have an easier time in front of a home crowd. Miami-Ohio has too many issues offensively, and should continue to struggle in that area.
