Weber Wins Lou Groza Award

(Sports Network) - Thomas Weber of Arizona State captured the 2007 Lou Groza Award, which is presented to the nation's top placekicker.

Weber, a redshirt freshman, connected on 22-of-23 field goal tries, making 17 straight to start his collegiate career. He scored 108 points and had the highest field goal conversion rate in the nation.

The other finalists were Austin Starr of Indiana and UTEP's Jose Martinez.

Starr drilled 19-of-21 field goal attempts and finished the year with 102 points.

Martinez converted 17-of-20 field goal tries and set a Conference USA record with a 57-yard kick against Houston.

Art Carmody of Louisville won the award in 2006.
