West Point, NY -- (Sports Network) - Ray Rice ran for a school-record 243 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to a 41-6 victory over the Army Black Knights in non-conference play at Michie Stadium. Rice carried the ball 34 times, as he broke the school's previous single-game rushing record held by Terrell Willis, who ran for 232 yards against Temple in 1994. Mike Teel started the game at quarterback despite a sore thumb, but he completed just 1-of-4 pass attempts for 14 yards and an interception. Jabu Lovelace saw some time under center due to Teel's injury and he threw for just 28 yards, but he made up for that by rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns on 23 totes. With the victory, the Scarlet Knights (6-4) became bowl-eligible for the third straight season. Army (3-7) didn't do much, offensively, in this game, gaining just 152 total yards. The team also committed five turnovers, including four fumbles. Carson Williams had a rough game under center, as he completed just 5-of-16 pass attempts for only 44 yards and an interception. The Black Knights have now dropped four games in a row. Rutgers opened the game's scoring with a three-yard touchdown run by Lovelace at the 11:30 mark of the first quarter. It didn't take Army long to respond, as Josh Mitchell returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown at the 9:46 point of the opening frame. The extra- point attempt, though, was off the mark. With 3:23 to play in the first quarter, the Scarlet Knights made it a 14-6 game thanks to a Colin McEvoy 17-yard touchdown return off a blocked punt. At the 11:50 mark of the second quarter, Rutgers tacked on another seven points courtesy of a two-yard run by Lovelace. Jeremy Ito nailed a 23-yard field goal with 2:50 remaining in the first half and the Scarlet Knights carried a 24-6 advantage in to the break. Rice scampered 18 yards for a touchdown with 3:30 left in the third quarter, as Rutgers extended its lead to 31-6. The Scarlet Knights continued to pour it on, as Rice scored on a three-yard run just 10 seconds into the final frame. Ito connected on a 38-yard field goal with 8:46 to play and that capped the game's scoring with Rutgers ahead, 41-6. Rutgers amassed a season-high 404 yards on the ground, as it sent Army to its first loss in four games at Michie Stadium this season.
