NCAA Game Summary - Louisiana Tech At Boise State

Thursday, October 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - Kellen Moore threw two touchdown passes and D.J. Harper ran for a pair of scores, as the 17th-ranked Boise State Broncos pummeled the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, 38-3.

Moore completed 20-of-28 passes for 325 yards with one interception for the Broncos (4-0, 1-0 WAC). Ian Johnson had three receptions for 106 yards and added 42 yards on the ground.

"They are very impressive," said Boise State coach Chris Petersen of his defense. "When our defense plays like that it gives us a lot of confidence."

Taylor Bennett struggled mightily for the Bulldogs (2-2, 0-1), connecting on just 9-of-27 passes for 202 yards. Phillip Livas caught three balls for 77 yards and Daniel Porter finished with 68 yards rushing.

"It wasn't their looks that gave us problems, it was their guys," said Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley of Boise State's defense. "I thought they whipped us up at the line of scrimmage. We struggled to run the ball."

A 13-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Julian Hawkins gave Boise State an early 7-0 lead, but Louisiana Tech was threatening later in the first quarter. On 3rd-and-7 from the Broncos' 24, Bennett threw a screen pass to Porter, who pinballed off several would-be tacklers before he was finally taken down at the three. However, a holding infraction nullified the play and the Bulldogs eventually came away empty-handed after Brad Oestriecher's 52-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right.

Boise State needed just two plays to find the end zone. Moore threw a 22-yard completion to Hawkins to close out the opening stanza, and then employed a little trickery to begin the second quarter. Vinny Perretta took a handoff and proceeded to toss the ball back across the field to Moore, who found Chris O'Neill down the far sideline for a 44-yard TD.

Oestriecher knocked through a 29-yarder to put Louisiana Tech on the board, but a 15-yard TD run by Titus Young gave the Broncos a 21-3 advantage at halftime.

Following the break, Boise State added to its lead with Kyle Brotzman's 49- yard field goal, and Harper's three-yard scamper into the end zone made it 31-3 with 3:54 to play in the third quarter.

Harper added another three-yard TD run in the fourth.

Game Notes:

Boise State leads the all-time series, 7-4, having won the last seven meetings...The Broncos will play at Southern Miss on October 11, while Louisiana Tech visits Hawaii on the same night.
