Monday, November 26, 2007
Fort Collins, CO -- (Sports Network) - Colorado State coach Sonny Lubick is ready to leave the school, but to this point he hasn't been fired or hasn't submitted a resignation.Colorado State athletic director Paul Kowalczyk said Monday that any discussions about retirement with Lubick have focused on the expectation that Lubick would continue to play a senior leadership role in the sports program at the school. "CSU President Larry Penley has made it very clear that Sonny Lubick will always have a place at Colorado State University," Kowalczyk said. "Sonny's reputation, record and service to CSU have clearly earned that. Any discussions we're having at this point are focused on his plans and what he'd like to do in the next phase of a very distinguished career." Lubick's current deal contains a clause that says if he retires he can stay on with the school in a fundraising capacity. The school is reportedly working on a buyout of Lubick's contract. Lubick has a 108-74 record in 15 seasons at Colorado State and is the school's all-time winningest coach. He piloted the Rams to nine bowl games and six conference titles. But, the Rams were just 3-9 this season after Friday's 36-28 win over Wyoming.
