South Bend, IN -- (Sports Network) - Jimmy Clausen threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a 28-7 victory over the Duke Blue Devils in a non-conference clash at Notre Dame Stadium. Clausen completed 16-of-32 pass attempts for the Irish (2-9), while Robert Hughes ran for 110 yards and a score on just 17 carries. With the win, Notre Dame avoided going winless at home (1-6) in a season for the first time since 1933. Thaddeus Lewis completed just 16-of-33 tosses for 121 yards and no touchdowns for Duke (1-10) in the loss. The Blue Devils have now dropped eight games in a row. A 25-yard scoring strike from Clausen to David Grimes late in the second quarter put Notre Dame ahead, 7-0. Clausen struck just before the half, hitting Duval Kamara on a 25-yard toss, and the Irish went into the break with a 14-0 lead. Hughes gave Notre Dame a 21-0 advantage with a 13-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter, Clausen connected with John Carlson for a nine-yard score. Duke finally found the end zone late in the fourth quarter on a six-yard scamper by Zack Asack. The score, however, wasn't nearly enough, as Notre Dame notched the 28-7 win. The Irish racked up 414 total yards of offense, including 220 on the ground.
