NCAA Game Summary - East Carolina At Marshall

POSTED: 9:48 pm EST November 10, 2007

(Sports Network) - Bernard Morris' three touchdown day for the Thundering Herd helped Marshall pull off a big upset in Conference-USA action with a 26-7 victory over the East Carolina Pirates at John C. Edwards Stadium.

Morris led the Herd (2-8, 2-4 C-USA) by throwing for 238 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-32 passing. If that wasn't enough, he led the team in rushing with 140 yards and a touchdown, becoming the first Marshall quarterback to compile 1,000 career rushing yards in the process.

Chris Johnson was the lone bright spot for the Pirates (6-5, 4-2) rushing for 75 yards and the only ECU touchdown, adding 45 receiving yards on just two grabs. Pat Pinkney was not effective as he converted 13-of-21 passes for just 109 yards. Altogether, the offense did not have one of its better efforts in managing just 259 total yards.

Anthony Binswanger capped off a time-consuming 16-play, 60-yard drive with a 34-yard field goal on the game's opening drive.

Following a 21-minute scoring drought, Morris hit E.J. Wynn on a 23-yard touchdown with just 27 seconds left in the half.

Morris then broke off a backbreaking 75-yard run in the third quarter. After the missed extra point, Marshall led 16-0.

ECU finally got on the board on Johnson's four-yard touchdown scamper midway through the third.

Early in the fourth, Morris connected with Emmanuel Spann from 17 yards out and the touchdown gave the Thundering Herd a commanding 23-7 advantage.

Binswanger hit a 33-yard field goal through the uprights with just under six minutes remaining to finish the day's scoring.

The Pirates came in averaging 32 points a game, but the stifling Marshall defense shut them down on their home field for the upset.
