NCAA Game Summary - Northern Illinois At Eastern Michigan

Saturday, September 27, 2008

(Sports Network) - Me'co Brown ran for 111 yards and a touchdown, as the Northern Illinois Huskies blanked the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 37-0, in Mid-American Conference action at Rynearson Stadium.

With the NIU (2-2, 1-1 MAC) ground game piling up 235 yards and four touchdowns, quarterback Dan Nicholson wasn't given a light workload, though he was still effective. Nicholson completed 11-of-15 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown.

For EMU (1-4, 0-2), Jacory Stone finished with nine catches for 98 yards.

Brown opened the scoring with a 26-yard touchdown run with 2:42 remaining in the first quarter, capping a 12-play, 83-yard drive for the Huskies.

On the third play of the ensuing drive, Eagles quarterback Andy Schmitt was intercepted by Tim McCarthy, who returned it down the EMU 11-yard line. Two plays later, DeMarcus Grady scored on a nine-yard run.

NIU's Marcus Perez added a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, as the Huskies ended the first half with a 21-0 lead.

They opened the second half with an 85-yard drive, punctuated by Nicholson's four-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Skarb.

The Huskies padded their lead in the fourth quarter. Justin Anderson found pay dirt on an eight-yard run, and D.J. Pirkle tacked on two more points on a safety with a minute and a half remaining.

The Huskies converted 9-of-14 third downs, thanks in large part to their high- octane ground game (5.5 ypc).
