Tallahassee, FL -- (Sports Network) - Florida A&M University announced a shakeup in its athletics department Tuesday, as the school has fired football coach Rubin Carter and accepted the resignation of athletic director Nelson Townsend."I am appreciative of the tremendous work Mr. Townsend and Coach Carter have done during the period when we were working to address NCAA sanctions," said university president James H. Ammons. "Now we want to move in a new direction with the athletics program. I'm moving forward with the hiring process." Carter had replaced former head coach Billy Joe, who was fired in 2005 for violating NCAA rules violations in recruiting and eligibility. Carter led the Rattlers to a 16-17 mark in three seasons. The university named Samuel Allen Bogan interim director of athletics.
