Coach Carter: Former NFL Star Headed To Florida A&M

Tallahassee, FL -- Florida A&M confirmed on Tuesday that the school has offered its head coaching position to former NFL defensive end Rubin Carter.The school is expected to introduce Carter during a Wednesday press conference. Florida A&M fired former head coach Billy Joe and two assistants on June 14, citing NCAA rules violations in recruiting and eligibility as reasons for the moves. Joe's career record was 237-108-4 over 31 seasons, including an 86-46 mark in 11 years with the Rattlers. Assistant head coach/offensive coach Gregory Black and running backs coach Mario Allen were also dismissed. Carter joins the Rattlers' program from Temple, where he served as a defensive line coach this past season. The 52-year-old brings 18 years of NFL and collegiate coaching experience to Florida A&M. In addition, he played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and was a 1974 All-American while attending the University of Miami.
