Honolulu, HI -- (Sports Network) - The University of Hawaii fired athletics director Herman Frazier on Tuesday.

The school released a statement saying it will buy out Frazier's contract, which expires on July 31, 2010, for the sum of $312,510.

According to the Honolulu Advertiser, Frazier was given the option of resigning his position or being fired.

The shakeup in the athletic department came just one day after Warriors football coach June Jones left Hawaii to take the same position at Southern Methodist University. Jones led Hawaii to an undefeated regular season and the WAC championship, resulting in the school's first ever appearance in a BCS bowl game, a 41-10 loss to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl January 1.

According to the Advertiser, Frazier's failure to hammer out a contract extension with Jones, whose current contract would have expired in June, was a major factor in the decision to sever the university's relationship with Frazier after a five-year tenure.
