NCAA Game Summary - Minnesota At Iowa

Saturday, November 10, 2007

(Sports Network) - Albert Young rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns, as the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 21-16, in Big Ten action at Kinnick Stadium.

Jake Christensen completed 14-of-25 passes for Iowa (6-5, 4-4 BigTen), finishing the game with 157 yards and one touchdown. Unfortunately the signal caller also tossed an interception and was sacked three times.

As for Minnesota (1-10, 0-7), the team was led by quarterback Adam Weber, who threw for just 190 yards and one touchdown. Weber, who tossed an interception in the loss, also led the ground game with 70 yards on 11 carries.

Iowa jumped on the scoreboard first, as Christensen hit Brandon Myers with an eight-yard touchdown pass.

In the final minute of the opening quarter, the Hawkeyes extended their lead to 14-0 when Young plunged into the end zone from one yard out.

The Golden Gophers finally got on the board late in the second stanza, when Justin Valentine rumbled into the end zone on a one-yard run.

Iowa answered back on its ensuing possession, using a 10-play, 80-yard drive, which was capped off by a 12-yard touchdown scampered by Young.

Fortunately the Golden Gophers added a 54-yard field goal by Joel Monroe in the final seconds of the first half, cutting their deficit to 21-10 as the two teams went into the lock room.

After a scoreless third quarter, Minnesota used a 15-play, 96-yard drive, which was capped off by a 22-yard touchdown pass from Weber to Eric Decker in the final minutes of the contest. Unfortunately the team failed to connect on the two-point conversion, leaving the score at 21-16, in favor of Iowa.

With the victory the Hawkeyes are now bowl eligible.
