NCAA Game Summary - Kansas State At Iowa State

Saturday, November 3, 2007

(Sports Network) - Redshirt freshman quarterback Austen Arnaud came off the bench to throw for 130 yards, leading the Iowa State Cyclones to a 31-20 win over the Kansas State Wildcats in a Big 12 matchup at Jack Trice Stadium.

Arnaud took over for the Cyclones (2-8, 1-5 Big 12) on their third drive and marched his team 90 yards down the field and into the end zone. Alexan Robinson was held to 61 yards on 25 carries, but finished with two rushing touchdowns for Iowa State.

Josh Freeman paced Kansas State (5-4, 3-3) with 347 passing yards and a touchdown, though he was also intercepted twice. Jordy Nelson caught 13 passes for 194 yards and a score, while James Johnson rushed for 95 yards and another score.

Bret Meyer started under center for ISU, and he engineered a 32-yard scoring drive on the game's opening possession, finding Derrick Catlett for a one-yard touchdown pass.

Arnaud took over the offense later in the quarter and accounted for 83 yards (23 rushing, 60 passing) on his first drive, which resulted in a three-yard touchdown run by Robinson.

Kansas State got on the board with 12:41 to play in the first half, on a 28- yard field goal by Brooks Rossman.

But Iowa State answered with another lengthy drive and the Cyclones took a 21-3 lead on Robinson's two-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter.

The Wildcats then responded with a 69-yard scoring drive of their own, capped off by Freeman's 13-yard touchdown pass to Nelson.

Iowa State took a 28-10 lead midway through the third quarter, when Chris Singleton stepped in front of a Freeman pass and returned it 21 yards to the end zone.

A 35-yard field goal by Rossman and a five-yard touchdown run by James Johnson narrowed the deficit to 28-20 after three quarters, but the Iowa State defense clamped down in the fourth.

Bret Culbertson padded the Cyclones' lead with a 25-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter, and Iowa State cruised to its first conference victory of the season.

The win marks the first Big 12 victory for ISU coach Gene Chizik, as it also snapped a six-game skid for the Cyclones.
