NCAA Game Summary - Colorado At Iowa State

POSTED: 6:35 pm EST November 10, 2007

(Sports Network) - Alexander Robinson carried the ball 29 times for 127 yards and two scores to lead the Iowa State Cyclones to a 31-28 win over the Colorado Buffaloes in a Big 12 Conference showdown at Jack Trice Stadium.

Quarterback Bret Meyer managed the Cyclones (3-8, 2-5 Big 12) offense, completing 9-of-19 pass attempts for 149 yards and two scores. Todd Blythe was Meyer's favorite target, catching four balls for 124 yards and two scores.

The Buffaloes (5-6, 3-4) were led by quarterback Cody Hawkins, who completed 23-of-40 pass attempts for 262 yards and two scores.

Colorado jumped all over Iowa State in the first quarter, as Hawkins kicked off the scoring with a one-yard touchdown plunge.

Hugh Charles made it a 14-0 game late in the first quarter on an eight-yard scoring run.

Hawkins led his team to their third straight score in the first quarter, capping off a 92-yard drive, with a 28-yard touchdown strike to Riar Geer. Greer's touchdown gave the Buffaloes a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Cyclones finally woke up in the second quarter, when Robinson ripped off a 13-yard scoring run to make it a 21-7 game.

ISU kept the pressure on in the second quarter, as two consecutive drives ended with a Blythe touchdown. The first score came on a 12-yard pass from Meyer to make it a one-touchdown game. The two wasted little time in getting back on the board, as the very next possession ended with a 55-yard scoring strike from Meyer to Blythe, tying the game 21-21 at the half.

The Cyclones carried their momentum into the second half, as they took an early third quarter lead on a 24-yard field goal by Bret Culbertson.

ISU took a 31-21 lead late in the fourth quarter, when Alexander scored from nine yards out for his second score of the day.

Colorado made a run late, as Hawkins found Scotty McKnight from nine yards out for a score. However, it would not be enough as the Cyclones were able to hold on for a 31-28 win.

2007 SEASON IN REVIEW: Gene Chizik's first year in Ames was anything but successful, although the Cyclones' head coach prefers to look at the glass as being half full. "A year ago I obviously answered a lot of questions and they were all really hypotheticals for me because I really didn't know what we had. I didn't know what our football team was going to be like on Saturdays. Everything was an educated guess."
