NCAA Game Summary - North Texas At Kansas State

Manhattan, KS -- (Sports Network) - Josh Freeman accounted for five total touchdowns, as the Kansas State Wildcats trounced the North Texas Mean Green, 45-6, in a non-league bout at Snyder Stadium. Freeman threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 23 yards and two more scores for the Wildcats (1-0), who won their season-opener at home for the 14th straight time. Brandon Banks pulled down three passes for 88 yards and two scores in the triumph, while Keithen Valentine toted 13 times for 65 yards and a touchdown. Giovanni Vizza converted 16-of-29 pass attempts for 100 yards and touchdown in the losing cause for North Texas (0-1). Cam Montgomery paced the ground game with 62 yards on eight carries. The Mean Green has not won a season-opener in the last 11 years. Kansas State jumped out quickly and grabbed a 7-0 lead on a Valentine four- yard touchdown run less than two minutes into the game. Late in the opening quarter the Wildcats added to their lead, as Freeman plunged one yard for a score. Freeman than threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Banks to give Kansas State a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Late in the first half, the Wildcats struck again, as Freeman hit Lamark Brown on a six-yard scoring strike. Kansas State kept pouring it on in the second half, when Freeman tossed a 43- yard touchdown pass to Banks a minute into the third quarter. Freeman than rumbled eight yards for a touchdown and a 42-0 lead. With five seconds left in the third quarter, North Texas finally got on the board as Vizza found Alex Lott on a nine-yard scoring play. The extra-point, though, was off the mark. Brooks Rossman nailed a 28-yard field goal in the final seconds of the game, giving Kansas State the 45-6 victory. Kansas State amassed 471 yards of total offense in the game, while limiting North Texas to just 205 yards.
