Louisville, KY -- (Sports Network) - Art Carmody nailed a 33-yard field goal with 20 seconds remaining to lift the Louisville Cardinals to a 41-38 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a Big East Conference battle. Brian Brohm threw for 237 yards and a touchdowns while also rushing for a score for Louisville (6-6, 3-4 Big East). Ray Rice ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns in defeat for Rutgers (7-5, 3-4). Rutgers completely dominated the first half and held a 21-3 lead after 15 minutes of action. Rice scored on runs of 10 and 14 yards in the frame, and quarterback Mike Teel threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Britt. With his 41-yard field goal in the first quarter, Carmody became the NCAA's all-time leading scorer among kickers with 433 points. Brohm cut Louisville's deficit to 21-10 with a six-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Rice answered with a six-yard scoring scamper of his own, but Brohm threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Carter to make the score 28-17 in favor of Rutgers at intermission. The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter. After Teel threw a 39-yard scoring strike to Britt, making the score 35-17 in favor of the Scarlet Knights, Brock Bolen cut Louisville's deficit to 35-24 with a five-yard touchdown run. Rutgers stretched its advantage to 38-24 early in the fourth quarter on a 21- yard field goal by Jeremy Ito, and the Scarlet Knights appeared to have complete control of the game. Unfortunately, they were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest, opening the door for a Louisville comeback. Bilal Powell made the score 38-31 on an 18-yard touchdown run, and Bolen tied the tilt on a two-yard scoring plunge, setting the stage for Carmody's game- winning kick. Brohm set a record of his own, as he has tossed more touchdowns in one season (30) than any quarterback in program history.
