Louisville's Urrutia Declares For NFL Draft

Friday, December 14, 2007

(Sports Network) - Louisville wide receiver Mario Urrutia has decided to forgo his senior season and will declare for the National Football League Draft.

Urrutia finished his junior season third on the team with 35 receptions for 501 yards and three touchdowns, missing two games due to injury.

"It's by far the toughest decision I've ever made," said Urrutia. "Unfortunately, with missing time this season and playing injured I got to see football from a different perspective. You only have so much time to play this sport, and the 2008 draft is my opportunity. I will always be a Cardinal. Regardless which NFL city I have a chance to play in, I will always remain a Cardinal. Hopefully, I can bring some of these great fans over with me to my new team. I truly appreciate everything the coaches, administration and fans have done for me.

Urrutia played in 34 career games for the Cardinals, recording 130 receptions for 2,271 yards and 16 touchdowns in his three seasons.

"I'm disappointed in Mario's decision to turn pro," said head coach Steve Kragthorpe. "I felt like he needed another year to work on his game. However, I wish Mario the best as he works toward his dream of playing in the National Football League."

Urrutia had his best season in 2006 with 58 receptions for 973 yards and six scores.
