Athens, OH -- (Sports Network) - A Joshua Abrams 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter fueled Ohio University's stunning 38-29 victory over Mid-American Conference contender Miami-Ohio at Peden Stadium. The Bobcats (6-6, 4-4 MAC) only managed 199 total yards, but the defense and special teams proved to be difference makers. The defense forced two interceptions in the second half to set up short touchdowns, while not allowing any second-half RedHawks touchdowns. Kalvin McRae was a bright spot on the offensive side of the ball, carrying the ball 24 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. Quarterbacks Brad Bower and Theo Scott combined to connect on 9- of-18 passing for 118 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were caught by Andrew Mooney. Miami-Ohio (6-6, 5-2) spoiled its chance to gain sole possession of the MAC- East Division. Daniel Raudabaugh completed 21-of-44 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown, but had costly interceptions in the second half. Cory Jones rushed for 103 yards on 25 carries, but didn't reach the end zone. Unfortunately for the RedHawks, their leading scorer was kicker Nathan Parseghian, who hit all five field goal attempts in the contest. Thomas Merriweather broke the ice with a one-yard RedHawks touchdown run midway through the opening frame. Scott answered for the Bobcats two minutes later, hitting Mooney on a two-yard touchdown connection. Raudabaugh ended an 11-play, 69-yard drive with a three-yard TD pass to Chris Givens, putting Miami up by a score with nine minutes to go in the half. Parseghian's first field goal of the day ended the half, as his 22-yard effort gave Miami a 17-7 lead at the break. After halftime the Bobcats rattled off three quick touchdowns to take the lead. The first TD came on a two-yard jaunt from Bower, who replaced Scott to start the second half. Just two minutes later, McRae went into the end zone from a yard out to give the Bobcats the lead for good. With Bower at the helm, Mooney caught his second touchdown of the day just a minute later, as his 17-yard reception gave Ohio an 11-point lead. The RedHawks came back with two 11-play drives, but had to settle for Parseghian field goals of 19 and 38 yards. Midway through the final frame, Parseghian's 41-yard field goal made it a two- point game. On the ensuing kickoff, however, Abrams made the play of the day with a 93-yard return for a score, giving the Bobcats a nine-point edge. Parseghian's fifth and final field goal came from 20 yards out, and made it a one possession game with just over five minutes left. Kicker Michael Braunstein booted a game-clinching 40-yarder for the Bobcats with two and a half minutes remaining. Despite almost doubling the Bobcats in total yards, 379-199, big plays from the defense and special teams made the Bobcats' last home game a memorable one.
