Sunday, September 21, 2008
Cincinnati, OH -- (Sports Network) - First-time starter Tony Pike completed 20- of-24 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cincinnati Bearcats to a 45-20 romp over the Miami-Ohio RedHawks in non-conference play. John Goebel ran for 63 yards and two touchdowns for Cincinnati (2-1). Daniel Raudabaugh completed 28-of-42 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns in the setback for Miami-Ohio (1-3). Cincinnati led 10-0 after the first quarter, as a 38-yard field goal by Jake Rogers was followed up by a five-yard touchdown run by Goebel. Nathan Parseghian put Miami on the board on the first play of the second quarter, as he hit a 19-yard field goal. On the next drive, the Bearcats answered with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Pike to Mardy Gilyard, extending their lead to 17-3. Miami cut its deficit to 17-10 midway through the second quarter on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh to Armand Robinson. Once again, the Bearcats answered right back, as Goebel exploded for a 20-yard touchdown run to make the score 24-10. On the final play of the first half, Parseghian nailed a 41-yard field goal to cut the RedHawks' deficit to 24-13. Less than five minutes into the second half, Miami made the score 24-20 on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh to Chris Givens. Unfortunately, Raudabaugh threw an interception on the next RedHawks' possession, and Cincinnati's Mike Mickens returned the pick 72-yard for a touchdown. The Bearcats led 31-20 at that point, and they put the game out of reach after that play. Cincinnati got a 24-yard touchdown pass from Pike to Ben Guidugli with 26 seconds remaining in the third quarter, and Pike then tossed an eight-yard scoring pass to Kazeem Alli late in the fourth quarter. Those two strikes brought the score to its final of 45-20. The Bearcats won the game despite losing two fumbles and allowing Miami-Ohio to hold the ball for nearly 35 minutes.
