Michigan QB Mallett Leaving Program

POSTED: 2:03 pm EST January 9, 2008

(Sports Network) - Michigan freshman quarterback Ryan Mallett will reportedly leave the program and transfer to another school.

According to both the Ann Arbor News and the Detroit Free Press, Mallett, a 6-foot-7, 252-pound freshman from Texarkana, TX, will transfer to a program that runs a pro-style offense rather than adapt to new Wolverines' head coach Rich Rodriguez's spread option system.

Mallett appeared in 11 games as a freshman, filling in at times for injured starter Chad Henne. He completed 61 of 141 passes for 892 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

In other Michigan news, the Wolverines' top two wide receivers, juniors Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington, will be leaving school early to enter the NFL Draft.

Speaking with several media outlets at halftime of Tuesday night's Michigan- Indiana men's basketball game, Rodriguez confirmed that both Manningham and Arrington would be going pro.

Arrington and Manningham proved to be one of the nation's most dynamic receiving tandems this past season, combining for 139 catches for 2,056 yards and 20 touchdowns.
