Fayetteville, AR -- (Sports Network) - Michigan freshman quarterback Ryan Mallett has reportedly decided to transfer to the University of Arkansas.According to an Arkansas paper, The Morning News, Arkansas compliance director Marvin Caston said he expected to get an official transfer release for Mallett on Monday. "We've got the 'permission to speak' letter from the University of Michigan, and we should have the official transfer release from them this afternoon," The Morning News quoted Caston as saying. The paper also said Mallett, a 6-foot-7, 252-pound freshman from Texarkana, Texas, had checked into a dorm room at the school Monday morning. Mallett appeared in 11 games as a freshman for the Wolverines, filling in at times for injured starter Chad Henne. He completed 61-of-141 passes for 892 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. Reports last week from the Ann Arbor News and the Detroit Free Press said Mallett would transfer to a program that runs a pro-style offense, rather than adapt to new Wolverines' head coach Rich Rodriguez's spread option system. Arkansas will enter the 2008 season with Bobby Petrino at the helm. Petrino resigned from his position as Atlanta Falcons head coach in December, just 13 games into his first NFL season. Petrino was previously head coach at the University of Louisville before signing a five-year, $24-million deal in the offseason to take over the Falcons.
