Oxford, MS -- (Sports Network) - Matt Flynn threw for 168 yards and scored a rushing touchdown as top-ranked LSU held off Ole Miss, 41-24, at Vaught- Hemingway Stadium.

Flynn completed 17-of-25 passes and ran for 14 yards for the Tigers (10-1, 6-1 SEC), who have won four straight and have already clinched a spot in the SEC Championship Game as the West Division representative.

"I want to congratulate Ole Miss. They played a hard fought game after the open date and gave us some of their best shots," said LSU head coach Les Miles. "They showed a lot of spirit and played well. I'm proud of the confidence this team has to have picked up their 10th win of the season and an outright Western Division Championship."

Early Doucet had eight receptions for 58 yards while Jacob Hester and Charles Scott each rushed for a touchdown for LSU, which ends the regular season next week against Arkansas.

Seth Adams started the game behind center for Ole Miss and struggled, completing just 4-of-11 passes for 57 yards with an interception. Brent Schaeffer took over in the second half and ran for 94 yards with a touchdown to go along with 208 yards passing, one score and two interceptions.

"We came up a short against the number one team in the nation," Schaeffer said. "We had a lot of plays here and there. We didn't always make them. We had a lot of penalties, but we played hard. They played harder. We played a good team."

Marshay Green returned a punt for a touchdown for the Rebels (3-8, 0-7), who have four losses in their last five games.

Already leading by a score, the Tigers found the end zone again on their first drive of the second half as Keiland Williams pounded his way across the goal line from 10 yards out to make it 21-7.

Then, with 6:51 left in the third, Joshua Shene chipped a 23-yard field goal through the uprights to pull Ole Miss within 11 points.

LSU regained its two touchdown lead with 4:23 remaining in the stanza after Colt David drilled a 48-yarder. David's three points ended a seven-play, 31- yard drive.

Early in the final frame, the Tigers went up 27-10 after David's 43-yard field goal.

With 9:11 left in the contest, Schaeffer pulled Ole Miss within 10 points after ripping off a 38-yard touchdown run down the right sideline.

LSU's defense came up with a huge play with just over five minutes left as Craig Steltz's second interception of the contest set up a two-yard touchdown run by Hester to make it 34-17.

The Rebels still had some fight left though and with 2:54 to play, Shay Hodge caught a 33-yard pass near the left side of the end zone to pull Ole Miss within 10 points.

After a failed onsides kick, the Tigers quickly put the game out of reach after Scott burst down the left sideline for a 29-yard score with 2:15 to play that put the game out of reach.

The Tigers marched 98 yards in 11 plays on their opening possession of the contest and took a 7-0 lead after Flynn scrambled for the end zone and just managed to cross the goal line from five yards out.

With 3:18 remaining in the opening period, Green brought the home crowd to its feet as he returned a punt 44 yards down the left sideline for a score to tie the game.

LSU had a quick answer for the Rebels as Trindon Holliday broke a few tackles and took off, returning the ensuing kickoff 98 yards to put the Tigers back on top, 14-7.

After both teams battled for field position in the second quarter, Ole Miss had a chance to score in the final seconds but Steltz intercepted Adams' pass in the back of the end zone.
