NCAA Game Summary - Vanderbilt At Mississippi

Oxford, MS -- (Sports Network) - Bryant Hahnfeldt connected on two fourth quarter field goals to give the Vanderbilt Commodores a 23-17 victory over the Mississippi Rebels in an SEC showdown at Vaught Hemingway Stadium. The Commodores (4-0, 2-0 SEC) only finished with 202 total yards of offense. Chris Nickson completed 6-of-7 passes, but threw for just 40 yards and one score. Jevan Snead was horrendous for Ole Miss (2-2, 0-1), as the signal caller completed just 12-of-25 passes for only 184 yards. Snead also threw four interceptions and was sacked once. Midway through the first quarter the Rebels broke a scoreless tie when Joshua Shene nailed a 20-yard field goal. The defense got involved in the scoring when Peria Jerry returned a fumble 13 yards for a TD, pushing Ole Miss ahead 10-0. Vanderbilt's defense return the favor seconds later when Ryan Hamilton returned an interception for a 79-yard touchdown. However, Ole Miss wasted no time, as the ensuing kick-off was return for a 68- yard touchdown by Mike Wallace. The Commodores did not shy away, as Nickson hit Jared Hawkins with a nine-yard scoring strike. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half Hahnfeldt connected on a 34-yard field goal, tying the score at 17 apiece as the two teams went into the break. After a scoreless third quarter the Commodores relied on the foot of Hahnfeldt, who nailed field goals of 31 and 40 yards to give Vandy the six- point win.
