NCAA Game Summary - New Mexico At Utah

POSTED: 10:38 pm EST November 17, 2007

(Sports Network) - Darrell Mack recorded 77 yards and a touchdown on the ground as the Utah Utes posted a 28-10 win over the New Mexico Lobos in Mountain West Conference play at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Mack carried the ball 24 times for the Utes (8-3, 5-2 MWC) becoming the ninth player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season as the Utes recorded their seventh straight win. Brian Johnson connected on 16-of-27 passing for 165 yards and a score as well.

The Lobos (7-4, 4-3) were paced by Rodney Ferguson who tallied 51 yards rushing and a score on 19 carries as the team lost for the second time in the last three outings. Donovan Porterie converted 18-of-41 passing for 198 yards, but was sacked three times in the setback.

Following a scoreless first quarter, the Utes capped a six-play, 66-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run by Mack. With just 23 seconds remaining in the first half Jeremy Brooks turned into a quarterback and hit Bradon Godfrey with a seven-yard TD strike to put Utah ahead by 14 points at the break.

In the third it was Ferguson who brought the Lobos back with a two-yard touchdown run. A lengthy 18-play drive by UNM later in the period was finished off by kicker John Sullivan who made good on a 22-yard field goal to make the score 14-10.

With under a minute remaining in the third Johnson and Derrek Richards combined on a seven-yard touchdown play to push the Utah advantage to 21-10. Completing the game's scoring was Koa Misi who returned a fumble 28 yards for a touchdown at the 6:57 mark of the fourth to give the Utes their 18-point margin of victory.

Utah converted only 3-of-14 on third down, but the squad did manage to turn up the defense and capture four fumbles by the Lobos.
