NCAA Game Summary - UL-Monroe At UL-Lafayette

POSTED: 1:11 am EST November 25, 2007

(Sports Network) - Kinsmon Lancaster threw for 99 yards and added 63 yards and a score on the ground as the UL-Monroe Warhawks posted a 17-11 victory over the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in Sun Belt Conference action.

Calvin Dawson managed 66 rushing yards for UL-Monroe (6-6, 4-3), which earned bowl eligibility.

Tyrell Fenroy gained 118 rushing yards and a touchdown on only 19 carries in defeat for UL-Lafayette (3-9, 3-4). Fenroy and Darren McFadden are currently the only two juniors nationally with three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

The only points of the first quarter came on a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown by Greg James of UL-Monroe, giving his squad a 7-0 lead.

On the final play of the first half, UL-Lafayette cut its deficit to 7-3 on an 18-yard field goal by Drew Edmiston.

Less than four minutes into the third quarter, Monroe extended its lead to 14-3 on a three-yard touchdown plunge by Lancaster.

Lafayette answered back, however, as Fenroy exploded for a 42-yard touchdown run. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt was successful, making the score 14-11 in favor of the Warhawks.

The only points of the fourth quarter came on a 28-yard field goal by Monroe's Cole Wilson midway through the final frame.

The Warhawks won the game despite being outgained 420-295 in regard to total yards.

Louisiana-Monroe
2007 SEASON IN REVIEW: As has been the custom in recent years, the Warhawks got off to a slow start in 2007, as they dropped four straight and five of their first six games. All five losses came by double figures, including a 31-21 setback to a North Texas program that failed to beat any other Sun Belt team. Despite the poor start, UL-Monroe never gave in and ripped through the second half of its schedule, winning five of its final six contests. Included in those wins was a 33-30 triple-overtime defeat of SBC co-champions Florida Atlantic and a stunning 21-14 road upset of SEC power Alabama.
