Sooners Beat Cowboys; Clinch Spot In Big 12 Title Game

POSTED: 2:12 am EST November 25, 2007

(Sports Network) - Sam Bradford set an NCAA freshman record by throwing his 30th touchdown pass and Allen Patrick ran for a career-best 202 yards and a pair of scores as 10th-ranked Oklahoma advanced to the Big 12 title game with a 49-17 victory over Oklahoma State.

With the victory, Oklahoma (10-2, 6-2 Big 12) ran its home winning streak to 17 games and clinched the South Division title outright. The Sooners will take on Missouri next Saturday in the conference championship game in San Antonio.

Patrick also caught a touchdown pass and Bradford, who played after sustaining a concussion against Texas Tech last week, finished 11-of-15 for 150 yards with four touchdowns and an interception.

"I felt fine, felt normal," said Bradford. "Everything felt good out there tonight. I started feeling better Monday, started coming around. I knew I was going to be fine.

(The title win) feels great. That was one of our goals from the beginning of the season and now we won the South and are on our way to San Antonio. We just need to take care of business next week."

Tight end Joe Jon Finley caught three passes for 38 yards and hauled in two of those receptions for TDs.

Zac Robinson was just 8-for-20 for 105 yards with a touchdown for Oklahoma State (6-6, 4-4), which was eligible for a bowl berth regardless of the outcome of this game.

Dantrell Savage rushed for 108 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown and also caught two passes for 15 yards with a TD.

"Their offensive line mashed us," said OSU head coach Mike Gundy. "They just knocked us back and pummelled our guys. We knew they had an effective running game and they got it going and were able to block down on us. They were able to mash down on our guys and run the football effectively. Their yards-per- carry on first downs running the ball were very good. I'm going to guess it's pretty good. Again, when you can do that, it makes it difficult to slow people down."

Oklahoma was first on the board, as Bradford threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Patrick just 4:27 into the contest, tying the season mark of 29 set by Nevada's David Neill in 1998 and again last season by Texas' Colt McCoy.

After a defensive stop the Sooners went back to work, running the ball six straight times on the way to a 14-0 lead. Patrick rumbled 41 yards on 2nd- and-12 from his own 40, and four plays later crossed the goal line on a short five-yard burst with 6:24 remaining in the stanza.

The Cowboys answered when Savage hauled in a 16-yard TD reception late in the first quarter. The 13-play, 87-yard drive was nearly stalled by Robinson, who lost the ball twice but managed to recover both fumbles just prior to the score.

Chris Brown rushed for a three-yard touchdown on Oklahoma's next possession to extend the lead to 21-7, and after Robinson fumbled again for the Cowboys trying to convert on 4th-and-1, the Sooners made it 28-7 when Bradford floated a pass to Finley in the left corner of the end zone, setting the new record.

Dan Bailey's 28-yard field goal cut it to 28-10 and capped the first half scoring.

Oklahoma State made it 28-17 on a six-yard run by Savage with 4:24 remaining in the third quarter, but the Sooners countered when Finley hauled in his second touchdown of the game, a 12-yard strike from Bradford with 1:26 left in the stanza.

The Sooners scored twice in the fourth quarter to finish the rout. Patrick found the end zone on a three-yard run with 12:21 remaining and Bradford capped his big day with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Chaney with 7:21 to play.

Game Notes

The pre-game festivities featured a salute to Oklahoma's 19 seniors, all playing their final home game...It was the 56th consecutive sellout for Oklahoma...The Sooners own a commanding 79-16-7 series lead over the Cowboys, including five straight victories. It is the widest margin nationally between intrastate rivals.
