Stillwater, OK -- (Sports Network) - Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy will receive one-year contract extension, pending board approval, after leading the Cowboys to their second consecutive bowl game.

Gundy is 17-19 in three seasons. He led the Cowboys to a 4-7 record in 2005 and a 7-6 record in 2006 with a trip to the Independence Bowl. The Cowboys are 6-6 this season and are waiting a bowl destination.

"We appreciate the job Coach Gundy is doing and believe he and his staff are making progress in moving OSU football to the next level. I am particularly pleased with the success our student-athletes are having in the classroom under Coach Gundy's leadership," said interim OSU System CEO and President Marlene Strathe.

Gundy, a record-setting quarterback at Oklahoma State in the late 1980s, rejoined the Cowboy family in December 2000 when Les Miles became the head coach and then took over at the helm when Miles left for LSU after the 2004 season.

This is the first head coaching position for Gundy, who had also been an assistant at Oklahoma State from 1990-95 after his playing days ended.

Gundy left Oklahoma State for Baylor in 1996, then spent four years at Maryland before returning to his alma mater.
