NCAA Game Summary - Washington At Oregon

Sunday, August 31, 2008

(Sports Network) - Jeremiah Johnson rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns as the 21st-ranked Oregon Ducks shut out the Huskies in the second half to pull away for a 44-10 thrashing of Pac-10 foe Washington.

Oregon's (1-0) Jeremiah Masoli entered the game in the second half after starting quarterback Justin Roper left the game with an apparent knee injury, and threw for 126 yards on 9-of-17 passes and two touchdowns. Roper was solid as well, hitting 7-of-11 for 114 yards with a TD and an interception.

Terence Scott led all receivers with 117 yards on six receptions, including a touchdown, and the Ducks rushed for 256 yards compared to 95 for Washington.

The Huskies (0-1) didn't move the ball offensively, as quarterback Jake Locker hit just 12-of-28 passes for 103 yards, while rushing for a team-high 57 yards. D'Andre Goodwin hauled in a game-high eight balls for 67 yards, as Washington fell to 12-36 under head coach Ty Willingham.

The Ducks got off to a fast start as Johnson ripped off a 44-yard run before capping their first drive of the game by spinning his way up the middle for a four-yard touchdown.

Two possessions later, Roper hit Scott on a quick slant on 3rd-and-10, and Scott did the rest, weaving his way through defenders for 60 virtually untouched yards and the score.

The Huskies kept it close, however, as Ryan Perkins knocked in a 35-yard field goal at the 12:15 mark of the second quarter.

Later in half, the Huskies gradually made their way down the field, and on the 13th play of the drive, Paul Homer rushed up the gut for a one-yard score, and Washington trailed just 14-10 at the break.

While Washington's offense struggled to move the chains in the second half, the defense showed signs of wearing down.

Five minutes after the break, Johnson rushed around the right end and scampered in for a 13-yard touchdown for the third quarter's only score.

After a Matt Evensen 41-yard field goal less than a minute into the final stanza, things got out of hand as Masoli settled in and looked comfortable throwing the ball. The versatile sophomore found Jaison Williams early in the fourth, and Williams sprinted for a 48-yard score.

After another three-and-out for the Huskies, Masoli hooked up with Jeff Maehl from 25 yards out midway through the final period, and Chris Harper capped the game's scoring by rumbling in for a two-yard score with less than a minute left.

Game Notes:

Washington still owns a 58-38-5 advantage in the all-time series with Oregon...It doesn't get any easier for the Huskies, who host 16th-ranked BYU next weekend, while the Ducks stay home to host Utah State.
