Garcia Suspended From Gamecocks Again

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

(Sports Network) - The trouble continues for South Carolina redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia, as he was suspended from the football team on Tuesday.

South Carolina athletics director Eric Hyman announced Garcia broke university rules and was suspended from all football-related activities through August 15.

According to The State newspaper, university officials have suspended Garcia from summer school and will require him to participate in an in-depth alcohol counseling program and submit to drug and alcohol tests if he wishes to return to the university in mid-August.

The move to suspend Garcia comes three days after his latest legal problem. The 20-year-old was reportedly cited for underage drinking, and his 25-year- old brother, Gary, was reportedly charged with transferring beer to a minor.

It's the third criminal charge against Garcia since he came on campus over a year ago. During a two-week span, Garcia was charged with drunkenness and failing to stop for a police officer, and then was arrested for malicious injury to personal property on March 3 after allegedly damaging a professor's car with a key.
