Report: Bower Out At Southern Miss

Monday, November 26, 2007

(Sports Network) - Southern Mississippi has scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon to make an announcement regarding its football program and it has been reported that Jeff Bower will be out as head coach.

According to the Clarion-Ledger, Bower was told Monday morning he would no longer be the coach of his alma mater despite a 14th consecutive winning season in 2007.

The Golden Eagles finished the regular season 7-5 and will head to the Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, marking their 10th bowl trip in the last 11 years.

Bower has guided the program to a record of 119-82-1 and four Conference USA championships in 17 seasons. The last title came in 2003 and the Eagles lost the C-USA title game to Houston in 2006.
