Report: Bower Out At Southern Miss

Hattiesburg, MS -- (Sports Network) - Southern Mississippi has scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon to make an announcement regarding its football program and it has been reported that Jeff Bower will be out as head coach.According to the Clarion-Ledger, Bower was told Monday morning he would no longer be the coach of his alma mater despite a 14th consecutive winning season in 2007. The Golden Eagles finished the regular season 7-5 and will head to the Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, marking their 10th bowl trip in the last 11 years. Bower has guided the program to a record of 119-82-1 and four Conference USA championships in 17 seasons. The last title came in 2003 and the Eagles lost the C-USA title game to Houston in 2006.
