Stephen F. Austin AD To Retire

Stephen F. Austin athletic director Steve McCarty announced Monday that he will retire from his position, effective August 31, 2005.

McCarty has been at Stephen F. Austin for the past 21 years, including the last 15 as the athletic director.

"My 21 years at SFA have been the most exciting and satisfying of my 40-year career in the athletic arena," said McCarty. "It is important for me to say thank you to our regents and administration for their total and complete support for all our student-athletes, coaches and staff members."

During his tenure, Lumberjack and Ladyjack athletics have enjoyed success. The football team has earned two I-AA playoff berths, while the women's basketball team has made 14 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
