NCAA Game Summary - Army At Tulane

Saturday, October 4, 2008

(Sports Network) - Collin Mooney ran for a career-high 187 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Army Black Knights to a 44-13 pasting of the Tulane Green Wave in a non-conference tilt at Tad Gormley Stadium.

Army (1-4) quarterback Chip Bowden (3-of-4, 39 yards passing) contributed 51 rushing yards on 13 carries.

There were few bright spots for the Green Wave (2-3). Andre Anderson, who ran for 219 yards last week against SMU, finished with 107 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Kevin Moore threw for 273 yards and a touchdown, though he also threw two interceptions.

Tulane went three-and-out on its opening possession, and Ross Thevenot's punt was blocked. Five plays later, the Black Knights punched it in on Mooney's four-yard touchdown run to take a quick, 7-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Army's Stephen Anderson recovered a fumble 81 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.

Early in the second quarter, Mooney burst free for a 47-yard run, taking the ball all the way down to the Tulane two-yard line. He scored on the next play, although Adam DeMarco's extra-point was blocked.

Army kicker Matthew Campbell's 22-yard field goal made it a 23-0 game with 5:38 remaining in the half.

Anderson got Tulane on the board with a one-yard touchdown run at the 2:19 mark of the second quarter, capping a 9-play, 73-yard drive.

The Green Wave drew closer on Moore's 49-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Williams midway through the third quarter, but they could not convert the two- point attempt.

Army took over in the fourth quarter. Mooney broke the game open with touchdown runs of 35 and 10 yards, and Frank Scappaticci iced it with a 35- yard interception return in the final two minutes.

Army outscored its season total by seven points in this game alone.
