NCAA Game Summary - Washington State At Washington

Seattle, WA -- (Sports Network) - Alex Brink completed 27-of-40 passes for 399 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winner to Brandon Gibson with 31 seconds remaining, to lift the Washington State Cougars to a 42-35 victory over the Washington Huskies in Pac-10 action. Brandon Gibson had six catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns for Washington State (5-7, 3-6 Pac-10), which got 114 rushing yards and a score from Christopher Ivory. Jake Locker ran for 103 yards and threw for 224 yards in the loss for Washington (4-8, 2-7). The quarterback had a pair of rushing scores and one passing touchdown. Washington got off to a tremendous start in the clash, as Louis Rankin returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown. Then, midway through the opening frame, the Huskies extended their advantage to 10-0 on a 35-yard field goal by Ryan Perkins. With just over one minute left in the first quarter, Washington State cut its deficit to 10-7 on the strength of a 41-yard touchdown pass from Brink to Devin Frischknecht. Washington pushed its advantage to 17-7 early in the second quarter on a 23- yard touchdown run by Locker. Ivory cut the WSU deficit to 17-14 on a 25-yard run, and after a field goal by Washington's Perkins of 43 yards, the Cougars took their first lead of the ball game at 21-20 on a Brink to Frischnecht 19-yard touchdown connection. WSU scored first in the third quarter on a 28-yard scoring strike from Brink to Jeshua Anderson. The Huskies did answer back to tie the score at 28-28 after three quarters of play, as Locker threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Marcel Reese. Early in the fourth quarter, Washington grabbed a 35-28 advantage on a one-yard touchdown run by Locker. Unfortunately for the Huskies, they were held scoreless over the final 12 minutes of the clash. Meanwhile, Washington State managed to tie the game at 35-35 on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Brink to Gibson. Just seven minutes later, that pair hooked up on a 35-yard touchdown with 31 seconds left that proved to be the game winner.
