Salt Lake City, UT -- (Sports Network) - Darrell Mack and Jereme Brooks both scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground as the Utah Utes ran away from the Wyoming Cowboys, 50-0, in Mountain West Conference play at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Mack carried the ball 14 times for the Utes (7-3, 4-2 MWC) and finished with a game-high 97 yards, with the team producing 278 yards on 51 attempts on the afternoon. Brian Johnson hit on 17-of-29 passing for 167 yards and a score in the lopsided victory, the squad's sixth in a row. The Cowboys (5-5, 2-4), losers of two straight and four of the last five, had trouble doing anything on offense, producing a total of just 122 yards on 62 plays. Quarterback Karsten Sween was ineffective as he converted just 8-of-23 passing for a mere 41 yards, while being sacked five times and intercepted once. Brooks opened the game with a 28-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter, with kicker Louie Sakoda following that up with successful field goals from 32 and 26 yards. An 11-yard TD run by Brooks at the 11:01 mark of the second frame made the score 20-0 following a successful PAT. Midway through the period Mack added the first of his two one-yard TD runs, but a failed Sakoda PAT following the first score left Utah with a 33-0 advantage. With just under two minutes to play in the first half Johnson connected with Bradon Godfrey on a nine-yard scoring strike, providing the Utes with a commanding 40-0 lead at the break. Sakoda accounted for the only scoring in the third quarter on a 41-yard field goal and Ray Stowers added a four-yard touchdown run at the 13:08 mark of the fourth to complete the onslaught. Utah controlled the ball for almost 38 minutes on the day, converting 10-of-20 third-down opportunities en route to 505 yards of offense. Defensively the Utes held Wyoming to just 2-of-13 on third down and never allowed the Pokes into the red zone. The margin of victory for the Utes is far from a school record, with the team having crushed Montana State by a count of 97-0 in 1911. The squad's second- largest margin of victory however, was against this same Cowboys program back in 1923 by a score of 79-0.
