Elon Relieves Football Coach Of Duties

Elon, NC -- Elon University relieved head football coach Al
Seagraves of his responsibilities on Monday. Seagraves has been re-assigned to
administrative and teaching duties.Seagraves, who spent eight seasons leading the Phoenix, coached them to a 9-2
record in 1999, their first year as a Division I-AA member. They posted
victories over playoff qualifiers Fuhrman and North Carolina A&T. The next year, Elon went 7-4. Since then, the Phoenix have gone 6-26,
including a 2-10 mark this season. "Al Seagraves is a quality person and has handled his duties in a highly
professional manner during a very challenging transition from NCAA Division II
to our current NCAA-1AA affiliation with the Southern Conference," said Dr.
Alan White, the school's athletic director. "I have deep admiration and the utmost respect for Al's tireless efforts, his
management of players and his focus on the details of his responsibilities. He
has been fully committed to our football program and to our University."
