May - Historic Charlotte Announces Artevation: A Celebration Of History Through Art

WHAT:
Historic Charlotte will celebrate Preservation Month (May) with a special art exhibition and fundraiser honoring the late Warren Burgess, a one time employee of the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Planning Commission and the Town of Davidson, NC, at his death in 2005. The exhibit will run at The Queens Art Gallery for the entire month of May.

Mr. Burgess was instrumental in the planning for revitalization of the South Blvd. corridor and was well respected by both neighborhood activists and developers alike. He was a city planner, urban designer and artist.

Artevation is free to the public and will feature the drawings of Mr. Burgess as well as the work of nine local artists. Their photography, fabric art, paintings, woodcuts and illustrations will be available for purchase with part of the proceeds going to the benefit of Historic Charlotte, Inc. Featured local artists are: Wendy Arundel, Nellie Ashford, Byron Baldwin, Diane Davis, Starr Davis, David French, John Howard, Deborah Langsam and James Sack.

Artevation is made possible with the generous support of the following Sponsors: Title Sponsors: DAS Architecture, Inc. and Neighboring Concepts, PLLC. Gold Sponsors: Foodman, Hunter, & Karres, PLLC, Gantt Huberman Architects, and The Nichols Company. Silver Sponsors: Absolute Remodeling, Inc., Coral Construction, Dilworth Community Development Association, DPZ Architects and Town Planners, Inc., Friends of Fourth Ward, Kent Lineberger Architecture, Miller Architecture, Peter Tart Architect, and the Plaza-Midwood Neighborhood Association.
