Charlotte Ballet presenting a sensory-friendly Nutcracker

Charlotte Ballet’s sensory-friendly "Nutcracker" recognizes that everyone should be able to experience the magic of the holidays. This special performance is designed specifically for people with a range of additional support needs.
“This performance gives an opportunity for families to partake in the "Nutcracker" experience. They can enjoy it with loved ones, and it’s just for them,"  Bianca Bonner, Charlotte Ballet director of education and community engagement, said.
For this special performance, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Belk Theater, Charlotte Ballet has re-worked "Nutcracker" to provide a comfortable, inviting and safe environment to enjoy ballet.
The show will be abbreviated and the intermission extended, and volunteers will be trained to help those with special needs.
"The lights are not as bright, the sound is not as loud and they can sit wherever they want. They can even sit on the floor or right in front of the stage, and there is special front-row wheelchair seating,” Bonner said.
Charlotte Ballet has partnered with Allegro Foundation, Autism Speaks, InReach and the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte for the performance. Tickets are $15 and are being sold at 704-348-5752. charlotteballet.org/sensoryfriendly/
