This afternoon Food Lion Feeds donated more than $5,000 worth of food to the 9 Food Drive. The food was delivered directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
Peanut butter, oatmeal, tuna and hundreds of cases of other food will go to local families living in need.
“Anytime we have an opportunity in our marketing areas to help fight hunger, that’s what we do and this is just another opportunity to do that,” Pat Calhoun, with Food Lion Feeds, said.
Today’s donation translates into more than 3,800 meals for local children and adults.
This is the third year Food Lion Feeds has donated to the 9 Food Drive.
WSOC-TV has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina for the last 12 years during the 9 Food Drive to help end hunger for the hundreds of thousands of people in the area who are in need.
Because the food bank supplies food and essential grocery items to over 700 agencies feeding hungry people in 19 counties, a monetary donation helps the organizations. For every $1 that the food bank receives, it distributes 7 pounds of food. You can donate now by clicking on this link.
You can also donate nonperishable and canned food until June 11 at any WSOC-TV Family Focus partner locations – which include Ashley HomeStore, Showmars, Hendrick Honda and E.R. Plumbing Services. Find a donation location near you by following this link.
