National civil rights attorney will visit Charlotte for community forum

National civil rights attorney, and star of A&E’s “Who Killed Tupac?” Benjamin Crump, Esq., and Mecklenburg County District Attorney Spencer Merriweather will host “Queen City Conversations: Know Your Rights,” one of the largest criminal justice forums of 2018.

The purpose of the forum is to discuss national law enforcement, judicial practices and inform citizens of their legal rights during police encounters and judicial proceedings.

“I believe that the main problem is the issue of mistrust between communities of color and the law enforcement community,” Crump said. “The solution is transparency plus accountability equals trust.”

The forum will be held 6p.m. Monday at Little Rock AME Zion Church at 401 N. McDowell St. in Charlotte. This event, organized by Andrew Fede and the Mecklenburg County Chapter of the NAACP, is free and open to all members of the public.

Moderators will be WSOC-TV's DaShawn Brown, and Michael Graff, writer for Charlotte Magazine and Politico.

“The Charlotte community has the rare opportunity to hear from some of the brightest legal minds in our country about topics that have deeply impacted our city,” Fede said.
