Marie Osmond is criticizing Billy Ray Cyrus for leaving daughter Miley alone during her Vanity Fair photo shoot.

Osmond said that "her dad stepped out," and that's when the racy picture of Miley was taken with her back exposed.

"My parents never, never left us alone," Osmond told AOL Television. "I think, if your kids are going to be in that kind of business, then you need to make it your business to be there for them and help them figure out."

The controversial photo shows Miley wrapped in a sheet with her back exposed.

The singer said that she understands the appeal of the opportunity to work with photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Osmond said, "How do you say no to somebody like Annie, when you're a little girl?"
