The CMDPS hosts its 2012 Lifetime Achievement Scholarship Award Gala to support the CMDPS Endowment to provide scholarships for Johnson C. Smith University students interested in pursuing careers in the health professions.
Nearly 300 physicians, dentists, pharmacists and community leaders are expected to attend this year’s gala, which is titled, “Looking Toward Our Future, While Reclaiming Our Past.” A cocktail reception begins at 6:30 p.m., with the dinner program beginning at 7:15 p.m. Dancing will follow dinner, with music provided by Divided by Four.
The CMDPS will honor the legacies of the late Drs. Reginald Hawkins and Emery Rann, as well as Emeritus Member Dr. Charles James. Hawkins, who died in 2002, was a dentist, Presbyterian Minister and Civil Rights leader. Rann, who died in 1996, was the first black physician accepted into the Mecklenburg County Medical Society in the mid-1950s.
Tickets for the formal gala are $125 per person. Reservations must be made by November 1. Contact Trisha Herndon at (704) 376-3688 or email her at therndon@meckmed.org. $125 per person
