Anna Deavere Smith's dynamic work of "documentary theater", Twilight, Los Angeles, 1992, catalogues the violent aftermath of the 1992 Rodney King trial and verdict and LA riots that followed the acquittal of four white Los Angeles police officers in the beating of Rodney King, an African-American. Presented verbatim from the mouths of participants, victims, antagonists, and bystanders of the events, the story not only explores the disturbing trauma of the riots, but also the underlying racial and class tensions within America.
