She also found time to win election to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board and served for eight years. She was recruited for the United Way from her position as CEO of the YWCA (a United Way partner agency), where she’d been for nine years, leading a major turnaround of the organization that had been dangerously close to shutting down.
