After a much-acclaimed, sold-out debut last month, Charlotte’s JazzArts Initiative’s(JAI) new monthly series—The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater – returns on Tuesday, May 21 with trumpet aficionado Mark Rapp playing the music of Miles Davis. The Stage Door Theater is part of Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, at the corner of 5th and College in Uptown Charlotte.
This new series takes place the third Tuesday of each month and features one 6:00PM set with the region’s most gifted musicians recreating the music of the best-loved jazz masters. The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater provides a casual and intimate setting with tables and a full bar, reminiscent of the classic jazz rooms of yesteryear. Limited tickets are only $10 and can be purchased at www.carolinatix.org,by calling 704-372-1000, or at the door if available. It is highly advisable to purchase tickets in advance as April’s launch of the series featuring the music of Bill Evans with pianist Chad Lawson sold out and many fans had to be turned away at the door.
“We are absolutely thrilled about the new JAZZ ROOM series and venue so that Charlotte jazz listeners can enjoy this amazing music. It’s the perfect way to unwind after work and take in some classic jazz with friends and co-workers,” says Lonnie Davis, executive director of Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative. “As Chad Lawson said during our series debut last month, ‘Charlotte needs this,’ and we couldn’t agree more. We encourage everyone to drop in for a drink and hear some of the best jazz the local and regional scene has to offer.”
